It’s a new take on the classic Nintendo game “Duck Hunt”, where a duck flies across the television and you aim and shoot with a gun controller. In our version, the screen is substituted with a sound booth mapped in four channels to create a three dimensional soundscape, while the gun is replaced with a mobile phone.
The gun is made to hold any mobile device running the Duck Hunt web app. The phone’s gyroscope provides direction data, while the gun trigger is connected mechanically to tap the screen on press. Through the flexibility of Spacebrew, multiple guns can be hooked up simultaneously with ease.
Data is sent through a Processing app which hosts the game logic. From here, the app communicates to two computers running Pure Data to map the sounds of ambience, ducks and gunshots.
